The Hummingbird

About the Artwork

The name hummingbird comes from the noise that their wings make as they beat so quickly. Hummingbirds are the smallest birds, and the only birds that can fly backwards. The sighting of a hummingbird is thought to symbolize hope and good luck. Some believe that they are also signs that challenging times are over, and healing can begin. If you are a spiritual person, the sighting of a hummingbird can also mean that a loved one is nearby.

I painted The Hummingbird after a rough year, not only personally but professionally. I needed the challenging times to be over and I sought out ways to heal my mind and my heart from negative energy. All signs told me that this was my next painting. After years of yoga practice, the hummingbird pose came up for the first time. The sound of a hummingbird is like music, which is also very therapeutic for me. The colors of the hummingbird are vibrant yet soothing at the same time and remind me all of the things that I love about nature. Upon finishing this painting, I felt peace.
